Memento mori

Two notes that seem appropriate for the Day of the Dead.

One

I have a simple email address. I get lots of email that’s meant for other people. I typically ignore it.

One of these other people was recently in the market for a new car, and entered his (my) email address on several car dealer web sites. Salespeople at the various dealers kept sending me email in repeated attempts to reach him until they finally gave up.

One of the messages caught my attention.

Dear Brian,

I thought I would check in with you one last time. It was my pleasure to work with you, and I hope you have found what you were looking for. As always – if you need anything, please let us know.

Have a great day

Respectfully,

Nina Wilson

It had a wistful, melancholy tone to it. One last time. It was my pleasure to work with you, and I hope you have found what you were looking for. I wonder if that Brian had met this Nina in person, had exchanged a few friendly words, had planted a seed of a friendship that never grew.

Two

I don’t remember the question on r/AskReddit, but I noted down one of the replies. Someone said his grandfather had passed away several years ago, assisted suicide after a long battle with illness, and he will always remember his grandfather’s words that morning.

“Remember that today is a beautiful day.”
